IBM PC family of computers

IBM, the world’s largest computer manufacturer, entered the personal computer market with the PC 1050, released in 1981. Its global success was due to the modular design of the machine, which made it easy to expand and adapt to the needs (and wallets) of users. Its upgraded versions (Xt, AT, PS/2) became world standards and their clones still dominate the personal computer market today.  The original models did not spread in Hungary not only because of their high price in foreign currency – at that time the Commodore 64 was the most popular here  -, but also because SZKI was the first in Europe to come up with a clone of the locally developed Proper 16 in 1983.

The PC XT (top picture) and PC AT (bottom picture) are described in more detail below. Individual data can be found at  XT, or. AT, without which both types apply.
